Virtual World Link
Virtual World Link is an open source project that aims to facilitate wandering through interactive VR worlds in a web browser. The goal is to be:
- Safe and Convenient for users
- Open and Nonrestrictive for developers
- High Performance for quality VR
Currently, it requires an Oculus Rift DK1, Microsoft Windows and Google Chrome. Individual VR worlds are implemented via (relatively) performance-friendly web technologies like WebGL and Google Native Client.
Getting Started
- Make sure you have the Google Chrome browser on Windows and an Oculus Rift DK1.
- Download and extract the NPVR plugin.
- Download and extract the VWL extension.
- Download and extract the NaCl Tuscany demo.
- In Chrome, go to chrome://extensions
- Make sure 'Developer Mode' is selected.
- Select 'Load unpacked extension...' and load all three folders that you downloaded and extracted.
- In the chrome menu, select 'Bookmarks -> Bookmark manager' and create a folder in the bookmark heirarchy, and name it 'vwl_worlds'.
- Go to chrome://apps and click on the Tuscany demo (named 'integration-test' by default), and then click on the star on the URL bar to bookmark it. Make sure to add the bookmark in the 'vwl_worlds' folder. After the bookmark has been added, navigate away from the page.
- Click the VWL extension icon in the upper right to start!
